From Balagué, leave the car in the parking area at the level of the blacksmith's workshop. Climb the trail heading due north, marked in yellow (PR B22). After one hour, the trail turns into a track and arrives in a hamlet of barns. At Pla, the markings indicate leaving the track to head N-NE towards the pass. At Sarrat, descend the track northwards and take an almost horizontal track heading east towards a clearly visible pass. Just before the pass, go through an ONF barrier. At the pass (1074 m), take a left turn onto a track descending in switchbacks. At the bottom of the switchbacks, take the track to the right (horizontal). The cabin/shelter is indicated by a large sign. From Saleich, go to the Vallates chapel. Then follow the PR5 signs (new markings in 2018). Just after the chapel, at an intersection, follow PR5 (and not PR5 / Grotte). Follow the excellent markings up to 980 m, the highest point of the PR5. Do not turn left to descend on a trail but stay on the track in very good condition up to the cabin.
Small ONF cabin on two levels. On the ground floor, a table, 5 chairs, shelves, a cupboard, a fireplace with a stove, kitchen utensils and dry wood. Under the roof (accessible via a trapdoor above the table, no ladder), 3 mattresses with covers on the new floor. The insulation under the roof is very poor. A large concrete slab surrounds the cabin for no reason. General condition (2018): Renovation has just been completed, new roof. Water (max 1 min walk, IGN source): From the cabin door, with the cabin behind you, turn right towards the edge of the clearing, enter the forest, and a trail descends quickly to the source. On 28 October 2015, the water trough carved into the rock was full, but very little water was seeping despite the rain 1 hour earlier. On 29 March 2018, high flow explained by uninterrupted rain all night.
