When ascending the GR541 from Les Girards and reaching the hairpin bends, it is at the second switchback that you leave the GR via a trail heading south to reach the hut. The old path that leaves the GR at the first switchback climbs north to Col Garnier. This former GR route has been abandoned, possibly because it leads directly into an avalanche couloir. For information, if you follow the GR to Col Garnier: the last 600m, between point 2160 and the col, cross a well-known avalanche-prone area. I have seen almost every year avalanche debris from the western summit Garnier or the eastern summit 2413.
The hut is very well insulated, with double glazing and shutters. It appears to be little frequented. The first floor is accessible via a stepladder. Inventory as of 22/09/2024: a small table, 1 small bench, 2 chairs; no dishes except 2 large good pans, 1 bowl, and 2 BBQ grills; sleeping area in the loft, very well insulated: 1 double mattress, 1 large blanket, space for 4 people total; broom, shovel, saw. Wood inside the hut (restocked), and abundant wood in the nearby forest and on the adjacent ruin. See the nearby hut's sheet for the availability of drinking water.
