Access

Located on a pass (la Pousterle), access via a forest road in average condition. North side, via Puy Saint Vincent 1400, then Les Prés, then the pass. South side, starting from L'Argentière-La Bessée, heading towards le Fournel, the silver mines, then turn right at the end of the tarmac section (hairpin bend): col de la Pousterle, (other direction, straight ahead: La Salce). Summer access is possible by car: winter access is on foot, with snowshoes, cross-country skis or touring skis. The road is sometimes snowed in for up to 6 months.

Good to know

Various notes: running water, hot showers, solar heating and electricity, adequate lighting, snacks available at almost any time; meals on reservation, especially for groups. A dormitory with 11 beds, and a room for two. Mattresses, blankets, clean sheets, pillows with pillowcases; bring a sleeping bag or liner or sheets... No separate room for unpacking or stove room, but basic cooking is possible in the guardian's kitchen. Rates (as of 2017): Half board: €38 (bring a sleeping bag or "sleeping bag liner"). Night + breakfast: €19. Picnic on prior request: €10. A tourist tax of €0.75 is added to these rates. Internet access on request.
