From Saint-Lary, take the road towards Spain (Bielsa tunnel), turn right after the village of Fabian and climb the beautiful Route des Lacs. Park in the first car park next to Lac d'Orédon (or drive up to the hotel, which is a hairpin bend above). In winter, you will ascend on skis or snowshoes from Fabian.
The large car park at the end of the road is paid, but it is possible to park a little further back before crossing the dam. May the gods of mountain hut information forgive me, I am referencing a hotel with a 1000-space car park, on the edge of a road so busy that access is regulated, which I have never visited, for which I don't even have a photo... and I am classifying it as a mountain hut! This unclassifiable and unmissable mountain establishment in the Hautes-Pyrénées is well worth this exception: Chalet, refuge, hotel - as it claims on its website. Rooms or dormitory, tourist refreshment in summer, base for mountaineers, winter room,... I leave you to judge. Let's just say that it is located in a very sparsely equipped mountain area, that it can serve as a support point for a crossing, and that it is a useful starting point for the ascent of Pic de Néouvielle. Guarded from late May to late September. It really comes into its own in winter as the road is not cleared of snow from Fabian. It then forms, together with [->3498], the backbone of exploration in the Néouvielle massif up to the peak of the same name. Winter room: 8-10 places.
