Via the Presles-Rencurel road (if open): park just below the Col de Pré Lang, at the "la Siva" spot. Then descend to the shelter in 15 minutes via 4x4 tracks. The GR trail also passes nearby. Allow just over 1 hour from the serre du Sartre. From La Balme de Rencurel, continue along the yellow and green markings. This small path leads to the foot of a cliff where a fountain and many climbing routes can be found. The shelter is located in a hamlet of 4-5 ruined houses: it is apparently one of the first settlements in the Coulmes area (late Middle Ages).
A new stove (donated by a speleologist from Ardèche) as of January 2016. The door and windows close properly (on 30-06-2016, a window pane in the dormitory was missing), but the building is too large to be heated efficiently. Broom, handleless shovel, a saw. Two nice tables and 4 nice benches + 2 tables with benches outside (one above, one in front). Sleeping on the floor upstairs: 10 places comfortably. There is a double mattress and a single mattress (so 3 places on mattresses). 4 August 2025. The cabin is in very good condition, stove, benches, table, saw for cutting wood, rainwater collection tank (with water inside!). Sink with supply tank. A box installed in the mezzanine to store clean blankets away from mice and an additional foam mattress. A nice view of the central Vercors, including Saint-Julien and Saint-Martin-en-Vercors from outside the refuge. Mobile network: very good signal (Orange), including inside the cabin.
