From Le Périer or the Cascade de Confolens, take the path to the Cabane de la Selle (well marked). At the IGN point 1571 m, the path comes closest to the Tourot for the first time (the Cabane des Terrasses is already visible on the other side of the stream). A small trail descends to a ford (not very pleasant to cross in case of high flow), then climbs up to the cabin.
Former shepherd's cabin. Moderate insulation: unbroken windows on the single window, but frame allowing air to pass through; intact door but not tightly sealed. The floor is made of stone (quite uneven). An old wooden bunk bed (the ends of the planks are worn). A large stone used as a chair. Rain insulation seems adequate (no signs of runoff): the roof is in good condition – despite a makeshift ventilation/chimney consisting of a crudely cut opening in the corrugated metal. A fire pit, but no chimney outlet. Traces of smoke on the walls. Not recommended. The Tourot flows nearby. Water must be treated if there is grazing upstream.
