The Montavoix is close to the town of Saint-Claude (39200) in the French Jura. From the center of Saint-Claude, head towards Geneva. At Rochefort, at the junction with D124, do not take the direction of Belleydoux, Les Bouchoux, La Pesse, but stay on D436 and continue towards Geneva. After Rochefort, just before a river bridge and just before a large bend, take the first left-hand path, which leads directly into the forest. Follow this path to the small metal bridge. It is best to park in front of the bridge, as many cars are too low to pass without damage. Park the car without blocking the path. Cross the bridge, follow the river on the gravel path, after one hundred meters take the path that goes uphill to the left, follow for about twenty minutes, cross a meadow (please close the gates if they were closed). After the meadow, take the path that goes straight ahead into the forest (do not follow the path that turns right). Go up the path, pass under the high-voltage line, continue for a few hundred meters to reach the refuge. In case of snow: park the car at the rugby stadium (Stade de Serger), head towards the Fontaine aux oiseaux and follow the direction to Le Montavoix.
