From the D89, about 500 m after km 12, there is a path that descends on the left leading to the Esplanes refuge, a shepherd's cabin. Upon arrival at the cabin, the path turns left and climbs very steeply. Once the climb is over, the path turns left again and arrives at the cabin after about 15 minutes. Caution: the refuge is difficult to find if you come from the bottom of the valley as the tracks are barely visible and there are many animal trails. Use GPS if you come from below.
Exceptional condition for a free cabin with easy access: armchairs, guitar, books, board games, emergency supplies, electric bulb, decorations, curtains, etc. To note: water available in a stream 150 m away and 2 nearby springs. Equipment present: 2 good saws, shovel, broom, small broom, hatchet without its handle. A little firewood is available, but dead and dry wood is becoming scarce near the cabin, so you need to go a little further away to find some. Other items: sponge, candles, lighter, dishcloth, etc. Missing: plates, glasses and cutlery. Fireplace with 3 BBQ grills. No dishes except frying pans and bowls. The stove heats the room well but not enough to cook on it. Adjust the draft to control smoke, but it generally works well. Sleeping area in a mezzanine for 6 people: 3 mattresses present (2 foam and 1 inflatable). No blankets.
