From Bozel, go up to Champagny-le-Haut and continue to the hamlet of Laisonnay-d'en-Bas. The Vallaisonnay valley opens to the NNE. The trail starts roughly halfway between the two Laisonnays (d'en Bas and d'en Haut). It climbs quite steeply up a step to around 1900 m, then continues through a pretty valley, still heading NNE, until reaching the alpine meadows where the refuge is located. Allow 1h30. Bus from Moûtiers train station Route: Moûtiers - Champagny - Pralognan. Stop: Champagny Company: Transdev Savoie. Timetables at http://www.transavoie.com/
The refuge remains open outside the guard periods. It serves as a base for those wishing to climb the Sommet de Bellecôte via the Cul-du-Nant glacier (crevasses!) or other routes on the southern slope. It also accommodates those who have completed the traverse from the NW, N or NE. From here, you can also reach the Col du Plan Séry (NE) and from there ascend to the Dôme des Pichères, or traverse to Lac de la Plagne and Rosuel.
