Summer access: Upon arrival in Les Menuires, take the detour to the right towards Val Thorens. Departure / arrival: Plan de l’Eau des Bruyères (trail 12) or Chez Pépé Nicolas (trail 13). Loop hike possible (summer only). Main stage: the lake! Also accessible from the Caron parking lot in Val Thorens (approx. 1h, 100m D+). Winter access: Snowshoeing and ski touring from Plan de l’Eau. Marked trail (blue signs “refuge du lac du lou”). Caution: this is an unsecured off-piste route; users do so at their own risk. Off-piste skiing: from Pointe de la Masse, Boismint or Cime Caron. Off-piste routes are not secured; they require knowledge and equipment. The refuge is not accessible by car or 4x4.
Guarding period: mid-December to late April and mid-June to mid-September. Half-board rate: Winter €72 - Summer €65. 2 x 4-bed rooms, 1 x 5-bed room, 1 x 7-bed room, and 1 x 12-bed dormitory. Drinking water and electricity. Bivouac: €5/person (with access to sanitary facilities). Languages spoken: French, English, German, Italian, Spanish.
