Starting from the large bend upstream of the former French customs (about 1950 m) on the Mont Cenis road, the "sentier des 2000" trail heads southeast and follows the border markers a little higher, remaining horizontal until reaching the Carolei alpine pasture (in Italy). From there, a series of switchbacks northeast leads to the hut.

The hut is permanently staffed by volunteers during July/August. Otherwise, it is open. There is a new (2019) and excellent wood stove, as well as firewood. The gas stove also works, and there is running water in the hut. Languages spoken: French, English, German, Italian, Spanish.
