Access

This is a mountain hut I have never been to... As far as rumors and documents suggest, both sides (Italian and Swiss) are heavily equipped with chairlifts, cable cars, etc., which "decorate" the old Breuil (now called "Cervinia") of Jean-Antoine Carrel, just like Zermatt of Whymper and others. One of these lifts reaches the Tête Grise, just a piolet throw (well, 1 km) from the hut, which stands on a rocky promontory to the north. Trails do however start from Breuil, winding between pylons and should lead to the hut in about 5 hours; from Zermatt, the glacier is more substantial. But elephant tracks must exist in summer!

Good to know

The original cabin dates back to 1920. It has been enlarged and modernized. You have a front-row seat to admire the east face of the Matterhorn, as well as access to the Breithorn, although most volunteers for this climb start from [->2336] a bit higher up; however, a glance at the map and local information suggest more tranquility at the Théodule... A winter room with 5 beds is available. The chaos of July-August should be even more unbearable in this area.
