From the hamlet where the refuge is located (Maurin municipality), the road climbs towards Combe Brémont and, just after the Maurin chapel, a pastoral track branches off to the right and crosses the Ubaye at the bridge at 1912 m. It ends after about 750 m, giving way to a trail that climbs SSE along the entire Marinet valley on the right bank of the Mary stream, via the Croix du Passour (approx. 2205 m) and the lower and upper Mary sheepfolds. There, the trail turns right, SW, then W after crossing the Béal du Roure, to reach a ridge at the top of which lies the lower Marinet lake (2533 m), then (on the left) the Grand Lac de Marinet, south of which stands the dry-stone cabin with a tin roof that is the Refuge-bivouac.
The cabin was built in 1967 and restored from 2019 to 2021 by volunteers from the Estive association and the Ubaye CAF, with financial support from the fishing association 'la Truite de l’Ubaye' and material support from the Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye town hall. It is used by mountaineers, skiers, fishermen and hikers. It has a bunk bed without a mattress, a table and two benches but no heating. It is however a valuable base for major climbs in the area: Aiguille Pierre André, north faces of the Chillol - Aiguille de Chambeyron chain, etc. Water source: Marinet lakes.
