From the church in Dieulefit, follow the GR9 northwards along Justin Jouve street, then take the second street on the right towards Grand Serre, continuing to the point called "Malemort - Hautes Rouvières". Two options are then possible: Option 1. Leave the GR by turning left and follow the yellow markings. You reach Col de la Pousterle in 1.8 km. Option 2. Follow the GR9 for 2 km and turn left at the sign indicating "Cime des Ventes 0.9 km". Once at the summit, descend on the other side to reach Col de la Pousterle in 300 m. From the church in Comps, take the GR9 southwards for 200 m to the IGN point marked 631 m (between Lombards and Alouette). Turn right and continue for 1.5 km to Col de la Pousterle.
The hut is located at Col de la Pousterle, on the Montagne des Ventes, 3.7 km from Dieulefit. It is a small makeshift shelter where standing upright is difficult if you are around 1.70 m tall. There is no insulation between the tin roof and the stone walls. The ground is raw: earth and leaves. No door, no windows, no table, no bench, no dishes and no tools. A few planks on the ground serve as benches and beds. It is possible to sleep four inside, provided some are willing to lie directly on the ground. There is a sort of old stove at the back of the shelter. Regarding the chimney, it is very much a DIY job; there is no proper flue to vent the smoke (see the photo below). I have not tried to light a fire there, so I cannot say whether the smoke escapes properly or if it could cause suffocation. There is often a stock of wood to the left of the entrance. To be avoided during cold winter nights!
