Access

A good unsurfaced forest road starts from the west of the village (between the hamlets "les Charles" and "les Martins") and reaches the hut, which can be seen on the right, after moderate slopes. Caution: From the Cabane Rouge (parking), it is reserved for forestry workers (and if you have to meet a logging convoy, you are in trouble...).

Good to know

Given its architecture, it must have once been a sheepfold or something similar. Divided into two compartments, each with a door. On the right (S) is a large room vaulted with dry stone in a full arch... this method betrays the probable age of the construction: no later than the 19th century. This was likely the stable. Today, it is littered with old tiles, pipes, breeze blocks, in short, various and sundry junk. The door is kept closed by a piece of string. On the left (N) is a room of more recent design (this part seems to have been added to the old sheepfold or rebuilt). It contains: 8 chairs, 1 table, 1 stove whose right-hand fire is no longer occludable since the circular shutter has lost part of its edge... you need to find a metal plate or whatever (a flat stone), otherwise no stove. Breeze blocks scattered around, 1 axe, some chopped wood. The west window pane is missing and is covered by an upright corrugated iron sheet. The door is kept "closed" from the outside by a loop of thick nylon cord, wedged into the surviving hinge of an old door. The lack of a broom is sorely felt! There is no sleeping accommodation. Given the roof's slope, there may be enough space in the loft, which is inaccessible since the ceiling has no opening. Plenty of wood around, but not a drop of water in sight unless you go 500 m to the NW where there is a stream and a spring, according to the IGN - I have not checked. Mobile network: Good reception in front of the hut (Orange).
