From the Col de la Croix Fry, climb to the Plateau de Beauregard and follow the local trail, either via the Beauregard cable car or via Les Frêtes. Family-friendly and easy circuit taking 2 hours (or more...). Accessible from Thônes, Les Clefs, Villard dessous and Manigod.
Main chalet closed, sometimes serving as a refreshment stand in summer. Only a very small shelter remains permanently open year-round for emergency shelter. No comfort, very basic, earthen floor, but it has a door that closes. No other amenities. Poor insulation, daylight enters between walls and roof. A small window is present but lacks glazing. In winter, there may be a few centimetres of snow inside... and depending on snowfall, the shelter may be inaccessible. No water at the hut. However, a well-maintained basin is located less than 5 minutes' walk from the chalet towards Les Frêtes at the same altitude: the Bassin de Colomban (or further down, the Bassin du chalet de l'Eau du Mont, towards the central plateau). A few minutes' walk away, do not miss visiting the tall and majestic Croix de Colomban and enjoying the view. The hut is intended for emergency use only, though it is possible to sleep there if properly equipped and if no alternative is available.
