The most direct and usual access is via La Balme de Thuy (just before Thônes), or by descending from the Plateau des Glières via Notre Dame des Neiges. These chalets are located about 25 minutes from [->118], close to the forest track when heading towards the Plateau des Glières.
Emergency shelter only (just in case...) A simple empty room with a concrete floor and no windows, 5m by 4m! Very poor insulation (3 stone walls and one wooden wall letting in light (and therefore cold). But it provides shelter from the wind and keeps you dry if necessary. Located near the small stream of Nant Debout. Plenty of water (spring, small washhouse and stream). Wood available in the nearby forest. The Notre Dame des Neiges chapel is about 45 minutes away. A second smaller building also provides shelter: it is an old barn with a large clean tarp on the floor, which can be used for sleeping. No particular comfort features.
