The most direct / usual access: From the car park leading to the cirque du Fer à Cheval, head towards the Bout du Monde and, upon reaching the Prazon refreshment stand, take the path on the left that climbs to the Pas du Boret (200 metres of elevation gain on a cliff-edge path, slightly exposed, equipped with cables and metal steps, requiring sure-footedness; avoid in rainy weather as the schist is very slippery). You will reach the Pierre du Dard and continue climbing to the Vogealle Hut. Allow approximately 3 hours maximum for the ascent with few flat sections to rest. 1000 metres of positive elevation gain. It is possible to take the path on the right at the Prazon refreshment stand. The ascent is then much more gradual and slow, but you will need to add nearly 45 minutes of extra walking. Magnificent view from the bottom of the combe at the Bout du Monde. Half an hour from the hut, continuing to climb slightly, you will find the Vogealle Lake, a good stopping point for the Tour des Dents Blanches or the ascent to the Ruan. Many possible routes start from here: for example, it is possible to reach the Folly Hut, the Bostan-Tornay Hut or the Susanfe Hut (Switzerland, beware of the vertiginous Ottans passage equipped with ladders).
Open from 15 June to 30 September. Fountain near the main hut. Showers available at the main hut. Winter hut open: single room for about 20 people. Hut renovated in 2010: 6 beds downstairs, 13 beds in a loft accessed via an internal ladder and a sliding trapdoor. Table for 4 people with 2 benches. Low ceiling height. 23 mattresses and blankets. No heating or wood. Insulation improved with wooden panelling. Fountain available for water. No toilets in winter. Fee of 5€ for overnight stays in the winter hut outside the guarded period.
