Follow the access trail to the Pigeonnier refuge from the west and the Muande Bellone valley; the shelter is located in the Péou area. IGN mentions it but does not rate it.
It has become obsolete since the construction of the aforementioned refuge, and alpine literature no longer even mentions it. A relic from the time when a 2000 m elevation gain was required to reach the Rouies from the Gioberney chalet before it was developed. It had no equipment but could serve as an emergency solution. The first edition of the Guide du Massif des Ecrins (by Lucien Devies and others, published by Arthaud in 1971) still listed it, specifying: "...rock shelter closed by a masonry wall. Space for 8 people. Unlocked. Early in the season, many vipers in the cabin (!)..." Visible from the trail, you must cross the stream and climb up to the cliff to reach it. The masonry wall is still intact, but the roof made of disjointed planks and metal sheets no longer protects against the weather. Very basic, with no beds or stove, it can hold 6 people.
