Access is from the Gioberney chalet-hotel, the end of the Valgaudemard road. Take the trail north then northeast towards the Gioberney hut. Pass it and continue along the trail that follows the Gioberney stream. A steeper lock is crossed above which you quickly reach the hut. (480 m of elevation gain from the parking lot). Access is also possible via a balcony trail from the Pigeonnier refuge (much longer and less logical as the Pigeonnier is at a higher altitude).
This is a very basic rock shelter dating from 1930 (in 2004 there was nothing inside, no stove, no table... and nothing since either). There is a door that closes roughly but does not protect against all drafts. To be used in case of retreat or summer bivouac before ascending Gioberney, for example. There are about 6 places, or more if you squeeze in. Water: there are springs and streams nearby, but check the quality. At the start of the season, vipers may be present in the shelter.
