From the Col de Porte parking lot to access Chamechaude, follow the classic and marked track before quickly leaving it for another one heading north. Shortly after, the hut can be found nearby on the right side of the path.
It is very basic rustic accommodation, but the isolation is adequate for the type. The door locks well from the inside, unlike the outside where a wire serves as a "lock". The interior is also cramped and very dark: a stove is present but with a completely out-of-service exhaust pipe. A small table and a makeshift sleeping space are available for one person only.
