1h30 from the Col d'Ornon, the trail begins in the forest paths of stream management, then upon reaching the bottom of the combe, the huts are indicated and the trail climbs in a zigzag. 1h from the Cabane de la Combe, to the southeast. The path between the huts and the shoulder under the "Petit Renaud" (shoulder at 2280) becomes lost in the steep scree above and requires some attention.
The two separate buildings are quite similar: 1 room on the ground floor, 1 "loft". About 4 places on mattresses on the upper floor in each. 4 places in the lower hut, 3/4 in the upper hut, in addition to the remaining floor space. Each has: 1 stove, table and benches. Located in the forest: no problem to gather firewood. A terrace is set up in front of the lower hut, with a picnic table and a view of the Gd Armet. No water nearby except in the form of snow in season; the fountain is much lower down.
