From the village of Cléry, hamlet of Raffort (2h30). Less than 30 minutes from the Col de la Fougère. Caution, access to the Chalets de la Balme is dangerous during the snow period, as there are many avalanche gullies on either side of the huts!!
Both buildings are open. Regarding the first chalet renovated in 2018: a large room with benches, a table and a brand-new stove, as well as a cupboard with various utensils, including a first aid kit. The loft is closed off! no more sleeping space up there. In short, the place has become welcoming again, which was not the case not so long ago. The second chalet, formerly reserved for the ONF, is similar to the first in terms of the large room (table, benches, stove, cupboard includes 4 beds with mattresses. Do not forget the presence of two guest books, one for each chalet! Not to mention excellent insulation in each hut. A small spring about ten metres from the hut in the direction of the Col de la Fougère. Very low flow (around 1 litre in 20 minutes). GSM network (Orange) usually shows 2 bars out of 4, or even 1, but it works.
