At Valmeinier 1500, in the first hairpin bend, take the forest track for 7 km through the Orelle forest. Park at the end of the forest track, at the Prec. The marked and signposted trail then climbs up to the Prec plateau (EDF cable car pylon). From the Prec, hikers can choose between two access routes: left bank or right bank. The trail below the EDF cable car is now open again. Right bank trail: Cross the plateau and head onto the Bissorte path. After about 200 m, take the path on the left that descends steeply towards the Bissorte stream, cross it and begin the ascent towards the Cartillères. From the Cartillères, the path heads due south and reaches the edge of the EDF dam at an altitude of 2084 m.
Permanently open from: early June to late September, weekends and public holidays. Open from early April to late May by reservation. Equipped with toilets and showers. Hut built in 2001. Winter: The emergency shelter remains open when the hut is not guarded out of season. It consists of a small entrance hall and a small room (approx. 5 m² max). It contains 4 mattresses and a few blankets, stored on the shelves. You must move the table and 4 chairs and lay out these mattresses on the floor if necessary. It is very cramped; do not count on the entrance hall when there is snow. The dry toilet remains available out of season (even with a thick layer of snow). Water must be taken from the stream below as the fountain is shut off out of season. Languages spoken: French, English, German, Italian, Spanish.
