Access

Catalonia, Val d'Aran, Bonaigua pass, park in the large Peula car park at 1900m (mechanical lift), above the hairpins descending towards Valencia d'Aneu to the east. The clearly visible "Cami de Gerber" heads due south into the Gerber valley towards the lake of the same name and then towards the bivouac. The path passes near the beautiful Estany Gerber, then climbs on the right bank; the marked trail passes close to Estany Llong, Redo, then heads towards the bivouac on its rocky promontory overlooking Estany de l'Illa. The bivouac becomes visible only a few minutes before arrival; allow 2 hours 15 to 2 hours 30 to climb. The bivouac can also be reached: from the small guarded Saboredo refuge, via the Lac Glacat pass and its lake; from the Amitges refuge, via the Amitges pass and then the Lac Glacat pass.

Good to know

This refuge is a copy of [->5345] or vice versa! : Metal shelter, wooden interior. Excellent insulation (entrance lobby). 1 table. Bench, stools. Few and old blankets, therefore very worn. First aid post. Water: There is a spring 3 minutes after leaving the Peula car park, clearly visible on the right side of the path; apart from this spring, there will be water from the lakes ... no other sources were seen in this valley.
