From Bourg-Saint-Pierre (accessible by postal bus, either via Orsières - Chemin de Fer Martigny/Orsières, then postal bus, or directly from Martigny train station CFF in the morning). Small access road, then trail (signposts). Approximately 4 hours.
The old hut burned down in 1991 (as did the Topali hut: the cause was never determined, and both belonged to the Geneva section...you might say it's strange?). I only knew it from binoculars, from Valsorey. You should consult the refuge's excellent and very comprehensive website, which also includes photos, opening periods, menu, etc., etc.... The Swiss VN route to Mt Vélan starts from this hut (crevasses!)
