It is accessible from the GR tour around Lac de Serre-Ponçon by turning off at a cairn, then following a well-marked trail for about thirty metres to the hut leaning against the rock.
The interior is relatively cramped, about 4 to 5 m², with only two benches fixed to the wall at a right angle, which could accommodate 1 to 2 people. 3 to 4 people can take shelter in case of bad weather. The door closes properly and there is a shutter on the window on the downstream side, but a window next to the door has no closure. While the roof is watertight, the wooden walls are disjointed and let in some draughts, though they provide good protection against rain. A small stream flows about 5 m away, possibly allowing for water supply.
