Access via the various GR trails that pass near the lake of the hut, coming from Villard du Lauzet-Ubaye or Dormillouse. The building is visible from a distance, facing full south.
The two accessible rooms have doors that close properly, with a roof and a floor. There are numerous benches, tables and chairs that could accommodate around thirty hikers seated for a meal. There is no designated space for sleeping, but given the condition of the floor and the available space, the shelter could easily accommodate around twenty hikers for a bivouac.
