Loading the forecast…
The refuge is located right on the shore of Lac des Monges or Lac d'Esparron. Access is possible from the top via the summit of Monges and the summit of Loupie (or Tourtoureau), from the bottom via Beaudinard, and it is also located on the GR6, with access possible from Esparron-la-Batie. It is also not far from the Col de la Clapie. A parking area is also located nearby. Access is via a dirt road suitable for 4x4 vehicles.
The refuge consists of two parts. The open part has a table with benches and a wood stove. You will also find a few pots for cooking on the stove. It is possible to sleep inside on the floor. The water from the lake is stagnant and not very clean. It is better to go down a little and fetch water from the Maladrech fountain, less than 10 minutes on foot downhill. There are no tools for cutting wood or anything else. For the second part of the cabin, you may need to contact the ONF to retrieve the keys. Note that there may be a second, more recent cabin according to online information. Awaiting confirmation from the ONF.
