Many people go up via the Combeau valley: from the village of Benevise, take the road to the end of the valley, which is normally cleared of snow. From the parking area, you can choose to go up via the 4x4 track to the large sheepfold, or take the trail from the bottom of the valley, which starts at the parking area and follows the stream. From the sheepfold, the cabin is signposted but the trail is not clear, and you have to head roughly north for about 10 minutes to find it. Another access route is via the Pas de l’Essaure. Access by public transport: Grenoble to Gap SNCF line. Stop at Clelles. 8 km of trails (including 2 km of tarmac) from the station, take the path north of the D7, then via "le Château Vieux", then climb the Pas de l’Essaure (600 m of elevation gain). Stone-built cabin. Water nearby. Two rather small rooms, sleeping on fairly comfortable wooden bunks. One stove but no firewood supply and few trees outside. One table and a bench. The door and windows close properly.
