From Montremont, take the Varos path / GR tour Aravis-Tournette. Access to this hut is almost impossible in winter and dangerous as this slope is very steep and avalanche-prone, and the access path crosses several avalanche gullies. Beyond the hut, the path is marked by a steep drop where the presence of the void requires great caution (several sections secured by handrails between 1380m and 1450m). However, the path is very well maintained and stabilized. It is not always easy for two people to pass each other. Extreme caution is advised. Warning: the access path may also remain closed late into the summer season depending on the amount of snow present. Warning, see the latest comments regarding access, which may be affected and vary according to ground conditions!
A stove, wood under the roof outside, 3 tables (one low, one standard and one folded against the wall). Presence of a broom, a saw and a wheelbarrow. Quite small but very functional, the hut can only accommodate 3 people on 3 low bunks stacked on top of each other, accessible via a ladder. Presence of 2 blankets and an old rectangular sleeping bag. Well maintained (frequent visits by the ONF for counting ibex and chamois). No fountain nearby, but numerous streams crisscross this slope of the Tournette. Access to this hut is almost impossible in winter and dangerous as this slope is very steep and avalanche-prone, and the access path crosses several avalanche gullies. Warning: the hut is usually closed each year during the hunting season (approximately from October to late January).
