Access from the Italian side via Bardonnèche: go up the Vallée Étroite to the place called "Les Granges de la Vallée Étroite". Access from the French side: - via Névache towards the Col du Vallon, then follow "Le Pont de la Fonderie" and the forest track towards Les Granges de la Vallée Étroite. - from Modane via the Col de la Vallée Étroite. - from Valmenier via the Col des Marches, the Col des Bataillères and the Thabor refuge. (allow 2 days) The I Re Magi refuge is the only building in the village, prettily painted yellow and decorated with wood.
Guarding periods: see their website. - Typical Piedmontese cuisine. 2 dining rooms, terrace, fireplace, small lounge with television. - Sleeping capacity: - 5 double rooms - 3 triple rooms - 1 quadruple room - 1 dormitory with 16 beds, total sleeping capacity: 39 - Running water, toilets, showers. - Half-board rate: between 38 and 42 € depending on the chosen formula. The Vallée Étroite is a former Italian territory that has belonged to France since the end of the Second World War (Peace Treaty of 1947). In this valley, the atmosphere and language naturally lean towards the Italian side. The administrative situation of the place is quite unusual: stripped of their property titles, the Italians of the valley only regained their rights, granted by the commune of Névache, in 1950. Thus, the properties are Italian but under French administration. To make a call in the Vallée Étroite, you must dial "00" for international calls... hence the refuge's phone number may seem surprising since you are calling from France to France but using an international number. There is no mistake!
