No mention will be made of mechanical access routes (I don't know them anyway...). Starting from La Grave (bridge over the Romanche), leave the small road that runs along the torrent to head SE, following a trail ascending towards the Puy-Vachier alpine pastures. Upon reaching Puy-Vachier supérieur (point 1882 m), a trail heads straight west towards "Pierre Farabo", where it meets another trail that started from the bridge opposite the hamlet of Entraigues and climbed through the Bois des Fréaux via numerous switchbacks on the right bank of the Puy Vachier torrent. Continue along the same bank towards Puy-Vachier lake, following its northern shore while ascending a ridge where the hut is located. Some markings may still exist, despite the installation of the cable car. Allow 3h30 / 4h
This old wooden cabin formerly belonged to the CAF of Briançon. I provide no current description as conditions have likely changed significantly over the past 35 years. It would be advisable to check the refuge's website for updated information. Formerly a key starting point for ascents to Pic de la Grave, Col de la Girose, Le Râteau, and of course Dôme de la Lauze...But that was before the devastation; if you can ignore the metal debris, you can still visit. Likely closed outside of summer and winter (mechanical lifts)
