Access

Due to several torrential floods that occurred on the night of July 29 to 30, 2023, in June 2024 and in September 2024, access to the Vénéon valley is complicated, particularly with the ban on all traffic on the road to La Bérarde (RD530) from the Pré Clot hamlet (after the village of Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans). Free shuttle services on reservation are set up from Bourg-d'Oisans to the Combe de Pierre Noire between Les Étages and La Bérarde. Access to the La Bérarde hamlet is strictly prohibited, including on foot; alternative hiking routes are available. Trails in the valley are affected to varying degrees by these storms. Take into account that travel times and elevation gains may no longer be reliable, and that topo guides are therefore not to be trusted until further notice. The hut is no longer guarded until further notice. There is therefore no reception, no catering service, no access to water, and no heating. An opening is expected in spring 2026, as renovation work is underway. The hut remains accessible but only in its unguarded configuration (18 beds, no other services, no amenities). From La Bérarde, two trails ascend the Étançons valley northward, one on each bank. They meet 2 km further up (at 1923 m) on the left bank, and you follow this bank to the Pierre Brune bridge (2093 m), where you cross to the right bank, then another crossing before reaching the hut. Approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Easy route, with scenic views. Public transport access: bus from Grenoble SNCF station, line 3000 + 3040, stop at La Bérarde (change at Bourg-d'Oisans), operated by Transière. Timetables at http://www.transisere.fr/. Note: this bus does not run every day.
