From Cauterets, take the road to Pont d'Espagne. After a few bends at La Rayère, just before the old baths, take a paved road to the left leading to the parking area called La Fruitière. Continue for 5 km with a 400 m elevation gain along an easy path to the lake and the Estom hut.
Between 20 and 30 beds depending on sources. Reception and meals are reasonable but not outstanding. I have not tested the overnight stay. There is no shelter for unguarded periods, but there would be a small cabin nearby (not seen, nor searched for, as I did not know about it). All this should be verified on site.
