The area is flat and allows for bivouacking, but there is no water nearby (La Ruissella was seeping about 100m above the hut in autumn 2017, which was relatively dry). Access is relatively easy from Les Gauchoirs: take the track heading towards Combe Blanche, then quickly turn left (about 100m after leaving Les Gauchoirs, then about 150m further turn left again onto a small path. Follow it; it then disappears into a scree slope over about 100m of elevation. Climb as best as you can through poor terrain of grassy slopes and scree. Around 1050/1100m, you will find a very good trail, preferably on the left bank of the combe. The path then makes a few switchbacks and returns to the scree field (1250-1300m); cross it without trying to climb too much. The trail resumes opposite (small cairn) and is easy to follow until the pylon of the 225 kV line. (Very limited shelter). You can then reach the Cabane du Plainet by following the ridge; a few steep sections (not very exposed), sometimes equipped with a rope.
Hut being identified on WRI... EDIT -- given the terrain, it can only be a hunter's hut: I don't see a shepherd leading cows or even sheep into such terrain!
