WARNING: The forest road (private) in the Veyton valley is PERMANENTLY CLOSED to traffic by the owner: Groupement Forestier d'Allevard. (0476975036). Information confirmed on 16 October 2006. The usual access is via the Veyton valley. The trail is then well marked "GR de pays" to the top, in about 3H30. At night or in fog, it is better to follow the stream to find the hut when ascending from the Veyton valley, rather than the GR which can easily get lost. Route highly exposed to avalanches. It is also possible to come via the Col de Vay, to the south. There is an unmarked trail that joins the [->45]. Access from the Villards valley and the Col du Merlet is a classic route.
One single room. Large table and benches. Some crockery for emergencies. The roof has been redone, but there are some drafts. Difficult to heat in winter. Sleeping is on bunk beds with foam mattresses, 15 duvets deposited in October 2018, blankets. A wood stove. Caution: no wood nearby, the wood reserve is to be reserved for emergencies (even and especially in winter). Tools: a saw with a slightly bent blade, a large axe to be sharpened, a metal splitting wedge. It would be necessary to bring: a new guestbook, a dust shovel, a broom. A fountain/trough in front of the door with a file to consult/update: [->8794]. A stream in front of the hut flows all year round, even in winter. In winter, snow can accumulate in front of the door. Bring shovels to clear the entrance. The door is divided into two parts, which is convenient as the lower part can be buried in snow. The door is in poor condition. The upper part of the door is held together by a miracle: the lower hinge needs to be completely rescrewed with long screws, the upper hinge needs to be completely redone as the wood around it is split. Hut indicated on IGN maps.
