Following the severe storms that occurred on June 21, 2024, access to the Vénéon valley is complicated, particularly with the ban on all traffic on the road to La Bérarde (RD530) from the Pré Clot hamlet (after the village of Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans). Free shuttle services are available by reservation from Bourg-d'Oisans to the Combe de Pierre Noire between Les Étages and La Bérarde. Access to the La Bérarde hamlet is strictly prohibited, including on foot; alternative hiking routes are provided. The trails in the valley have been affected to varying degrees by these storms. Bear in mind that the usual walking times and elevation gains may no longer apply and that the various topographic guides are therefore not reliable until further notice. Starting from the Les Étages hamlet, where vehicles are left, a trail climbs north (signposted) and hits a rocky barrier, which it follows westward. It reaches the "Ruisseau d'Amont" and zigzags northeast along its left bank, then northwest to a footbridge (approx. 2060 m) allowing to cross to the right bank and climb straight north in many switchbacks, using the unmistakable silhouette of the Aiguille Dibona as a landmark, at the foot of which the hut is built. You will have climbed 1100 m of elevation gain in 4 hours of walking. In winter, 18 places available. Guarded from mid-June to late September, weekends during the off-season. 2025 dates: guarded on weekends of June 21-22 and 28-29, then continuously from July 5 until the end of the summer season in late September.
