From Entraigues take the path opposite the rubbish bins, heading towards Le Besset dessus (sources present, reached after 1 hour), then follow the direction to Chanin via a trail crossing alpine meadows and a pine forest until crossing the ruisseau du Montzard and the torrent du Vallon (30 minutes from Le Besset dessus). From there, there are no more signs. 400 metres after the torrent, the path arrives in a clearing with an indistinct trail climbing to the right along the forest edge (there is a cut tree on the left at the start of the clearing), follow this trail which climbs in switchbacks through the forest to the edge of the Coirnavan valley. Then pass between two trees painted orange to cross (through bushes, trail overgrown by vegetation) to point 1991 on the IGN map, where it meets the trail that went straight ahead in the clearing. Continue in switchbacks up to the Chalet de Chanin.
Former alpine chalet restored, private and closed (no shelter available). Possible to camp about 100 metres below the chalet (flat grassy area). Water source at Chanin in the Coirnavan valley (6 minutes).
