Access via the valley or along the ridges. To access via the valley, follow the stream southwest until reaching a characteristic rock marking the end of the valley. Then head northwest, following the best trace available. From Valefroide: reach the waterfall of the Pré des Bruns stream, then take a small path to the right that starts just beside the waterfall. This trail winds through the forest, then emerges around 1900 m and passes by the Cabane du Pré des Bruns. Climb above the hut to 2050 m, where there is a passage to cross the main gully. This connects to the remaining trail sections that ascend, crossing additional gullies until reaching the Cabane de l'Arc (or du Ruisseau du Pré des Bruns).
Sleeping places on mattresses: maximum 3-4 (there are 2 double mattresses, but the central post supporting the roof frame prevents them from being properly placed). 3 blankets in good condition. The stove is old, slightly cracked, and the smoke exhaust pipe is very basic... It is possible to make a fire to warm up without excessively smoking the hut. No chimney. For winter use (info November 2017): the hut had been prepared for winter by locals encountered: the flat stones paving the floor were lifted (to prevent them from embedding into the packed earth). To set up the mattresses, you will need to place these stones back on the ground, cover them with the planks stored in a pile at the hut's entrance, then cover everything with the 2 plastic tarps to insulate from moisture, and finally place the 2 mattresses. A few pots and cooking utensils. Tools (scythe, axe, hammer) and hardware. Access is likely difficult in winter as the hut is very low and quickly becomes covered in snow, with the door blocked. Wild setting.
