At the exit of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise (coming from Bourg-Saint-Maurice), take a small road to the left towards La Masure, then towards La Savonne. The parking is 500 metres before La Savonne (beyond that, reserved for locals). The refuge is less than an hour's walk from the parking area, in the centre of the Sassière plateau.
Former alpine farmhouse converted into a refuge in 1974 and renovated in 1989. Not guarded but monitored from 1989 to 2015, it has been guarded again since 2016. The refuge is guarded in summer and spring (for ski touring and snowshoeing). Off-season, the keys are to be collected from Mrs Mercier at La Masure (hamlet located on the way up). Equipped kitchen with gas, self-managed only (no half-board). Water inside and basin outside. Mattresses and blankets. Wood available (to be used sparingly).
