From Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle, take the D465 towards Ballon d'Alsace. Pass near the Plain du Canon forestry house (located next to the Club Alpin Français refuge of the same name). A little higher up, in a hairpin bend, there is an entrance to the chemin des Paltons. Follow this path. Then two options: - Yellow circle then yellow and white rectangle towards the chalet Spiler, then turn right to descend along a green triangle trail. - Yellow circle then enter a "sentier des roches" (dangerous with a lot of snow). At the bottom of this trail, you will find the cabane de Morteville. It is therefore quite possible to access it from the chalet Spiler as well.
Dietrich wood stove in very good condition, does not smoke. The interior space is relatively large and takes an hour to warm up. A log saw. An axe. A handsaw. Kindling. Small logs. Firelighters. Lighter. A gas stove (without gas cylinder). Tables and chairs, you can have a meal for about fifteen people. This refuge is in very good condition. No fountain nearby, but close by there is a spring and stream 40m lower for washing or drinking if you are equipped with tablets. The floor is a concrete slab that cools the place and its atmosphere.
