Unmanned bivouac shelter located in Macugnaga, in the Piedmont region. It is managed by the Gallarate section of the Italian Alpine Club and belongs to the public domain.

There are expedient solutions via the eastern slope (Italy) of the Jägerjoch, just south of the shelter, but these require crossing steep rocks, sometimes icy with average difficulties AD/D, as well as rockfalls. In this case, one usually comes from the Belloni bivouac shelter. Allow 5 to 6 hours without stops. Another option is to ascend the Grenzgletscher, thus west of the pass and in Switzerland, from the Monte Rosa Hütte: this takes roughly the same amount of time, following the left bank of the glacier, with crevasse crossings and rimaye passages, etc. The difficulties theoretically do not exceed "PD", but still... 5 hours as well. Many groups choose to cross the border at Neues Weisstor and cover the 7 km of glacier (up and down...) by following the border ridge on its right side, with (sometimes huge) crevasses, and although the elevation gain is more gradual, the hike from the Eugenio Sella refuge will take 6 hours.
Half-barrel construction, steel lined inside, with foldable bunks equipped with mattresses and blankets. No heating or lighting, a small central table and two benches. Water nearby in the form of snow or ice. Maintenance work was carried out in 2012: http://www.caigallarate.it/allegati/foto-bivacco-citta-gallarate.pdf. This shelter is mainly used by volunteers wishing to access the northern routes of the Nordend peak or to rejoin the classic route to the Dufour peak.
