Access

The refuge is located at the end of the track that goes up along the Traversiera Valley, from Aceglio at the bottom of the Val Maira, to the Col de la Coletta at 2830 m. From France, it is quite far. Start from Maljasset, heading towards the Autaret border pass, then descend to the homonymous Granges and climb southeast to the Coletta and the bivouac just behind it. In winter, the door may not be accessible. Bring a good snow shovel (the external shovel was buried in the snow), knowing that the door is divided in two, so you don't need to clear all the snow.

Good to know

Interior equipment: 1 table, 1 bench + 3 stools, 9 sleeping places (3 * 3 bunk beds) + 1 above the entrance with a mattress and pillow, electricity from solar panels, 1 emergency call device, 1 first aid kit. The 9 sleeping places are wide and can accommodate more people. 1 blanket per sleeping place. Exterior equipment: 1 table + 1 bench. A little further east is an old military bunker with the inscription 'Refuge Carmagnola', which corresponds to what is found on maps at the old building that could serve as shelter; it is not the bivouac. Do not confuse them. Water: when accessing this bivouac from [->7846], you cross several abundant streams (quite low on the ascent) where it is very easy and useful to fill up.
