Ausserberg - Parking Stollen P. 1264 - Stollen (tunnel over one kilometre long without lighting, headlamp or torch required) or via the Niwärch bisse" - Hohbitzu - Baltschiederklause (extremely steep path to be taken only if not prone to vertigo and with a very sure footing). 6 ½ hours from Ausserberg / 5 ½ hours from the Stollen P. 1264 parking. The ascent to the hut along the very wild Baltschieder valley presents no particular difficulty; chamois, ibex and marmots can often be seen.
Guarded from late June to mid or late September. Self-cooking is possible even when the guardian is present, but it would be a shame to miss out on the excellent cuisine offered by the guardian, who also speaks French. 76 beds in 6 dormitories, sleeping bag liner recommended. Water is scarce and rationed. No showers and toilets are outside (remember to bring your headlamp...). Due to the length of the approach, the hut is rarely full, but it is a popular spot for mountaineers and climbers (very pretty climbing garden behind the hut). Winter room with 14 beds, no heating and no stove or gas. Access to the hut in winter is very hazardous due to frequent avalanches.
