From Verbier (upper station of the Ruinettes), follow a path parallel to a bisse (irrigation channel) to La Chaux (alpine pasture); the hut is visible. Allow 1h30: you could take your great-grandmother there.
This SAC hut is somewhat (euphemism) drowned in the ski lifts, slopes, etc. of the Verbier resort. It is therefore extremely busy at all times of the year, probably even more so in winter than in summer. It is mentioned here almost as a "reminder". The crowd usually descends on its skis or snowboards, long or short depending on the season, but the ascent to Mont Fort (3328 m.), an unmissable viewpoint reached in about 3h30, is rarely a solitary outing even if you are alone, especially since a chairlift reaches the summit...!! Aiming for the shoulder seasons may be a lesser evil...but there is no local accommodation available outside the guard periods, except for new developments.
