Coordinates: 569402.97 / 94304.58 Located just north of the Col d'Orny, below the Pointe d'Orny, on a balcony above the Trient Glacier, facing the Aiguille du Tour and the Aiguilles Dorées. All hiking routes to reach the hut come from the Val Ferret to the east, passing obligatorily via the [->2442]. From the [->2442] to the Trient hut, the trail runs over sheepback rocks and the moraine on the left bank of the Orny Glacier. The Trient hut is located just after the ice-covered Col d'Orny, which is crossed on rock. There is therefore no glacier crossing to reach the Trient hut. Allow 1h15 from the [->2442]. Currently, this trail is marked in red (mountain route) on map.geo.admin and Suisse Mobile maps (white-red-white markings on the ground). A discussion is underway to mark it in blue (alpine route) as the high-mountain glacial environment is very pronounced. It is therefore necessary to have the appropriate experience and equipment when taking these routes, particularly at the start and end of the season (snow). It is also possible to reach the hut via mountaineering and glacier hiking routes from Switzerland or France, obligatorily passing through various glaciers, including a final crossing of the Trient Glacier. From the [->316] via the Col du Chardonnet and the Fenêtre de Saleinaz: 5h, PD difficulty, glacier equipment mandatory. From Trient via the Glacier chalet, the [->7142] and the Fenêtre du Chamois: 5h30, PD difficulty, glacier equipment mandatory. In winter, follow the Haute Route itinerary.
Refuge construit en 1933 en remplacement de la cabane Julien Dupuis et inauguré en 1934, rénové en 1975, agrandi en 2006, rénové en 2023. Ouverture de début mars à fin avril et de début juin à fin septembre. Dates 2025 : du 7 mars au 30 avril (au matin) et du 6 juin au 22 septembre (au matin) 90 places en dortoir. Tarifs variables selon l'âge, l'adhésion au CAS, etc. Pour un adulte non membre en demi-pension : CHF 97.- (rajouter la taxe de séjour) Possibilité de pique-nique. Paiements en espèces (francs suisses, euros) ou carte bancaire. Pas de paiement par chèque, pas de facture. Restauration avec produits locaux et boissons. A titre indicatif : bouteille d'eau 1,5L CHF 10.- ; thé de marche CHF 5.- Refuge d'hiver : Local d'hiver disponible avec 5 couchettes (matelas, couvertures). Pas de poêle à bois, pas d'eau, pas d'ustensile de cuisine. Pièce bien isolée.
