Going up the Rébenty valley, 200m after Méral, cross a small bridge on the left leading to a building housing a hydroelectric turbine. Follow the forest track for 3km until a large crossroads. Cross the bridge on the left and continue on the track for 3km. After a large meadow, take a track descending to the left, then, about thirty meters further down, take the track to the right for 400m. At a fork, take a path climbing steeply to the right for 20m. The hut is to the left of the clearing, under several beech trees. The Cabane de la Rauzine is well worth the effort!
This is an unusual case: I am posting about a mountain hut in great danger. This is a cry for help. It needs people to survive! It is very old (given the thickness of the walls and the history of the region, I would say the 1920s or 1930s), covered with slate tiles. Its walls are in excellent condition, the wood still sound. But the slates have started to slip. The ridge is already bare in places and gaps are appearing. In 2 or 3 years, it will be too late. Urgent action is needed: a tarp for this winter and a small rehabilitation campaign (even replacing the slates with metal sheets). The forest track allows materials to be brought within fifty meters. So, if there are any volunteers, please request permission (Mairie de Mérial or ONF, to be determined).
