Access via Les Fonds (rough and quite steep trail at the beginning) or via the Villy ridges (this path has a very dangerous ridge in bad weather and is not fully marked). Access is also possible from the Prés de Salenton (below the Col de Salenton), but the route then relies mainly on intuition and terrain awareness. For experienced hikers. Another relatively easier path also starts towards the hut shortly after the refuge des Fonts. Access only in summer and in dry weather.
Waterproof hut sometimes used by reserve wardens. No lock but the door closes, with a small window. No heating, no toilets or water (only a small pond a few dozen meters from the hut). Completely isolated hut, very small in size. As of 21/08/2009, there was a foam mattress, two blankets, a plastic tarp and an emergency blanket. As of 28/06/2012, an additional blanket and a broken-handled shovel. The lower hinge of the door is broken, so the door only stays closed by the upper one. August 2012: the hut was dismantled and completely rebuilt in August 2012 by volunteers from Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. It is therefore brand new and very comfortable (2 mattresses, several blankets, table, benches, ...). In August 2025, there are 5 foam mattresses and blankets.
