From the Rochetaillée parking area (alt 711m) on the N91, a trail starts behind the Oisans tourist sign. It climbs well-marked in short switchbacks, around 1070m, crosses a rocky outcrop using a good cable (stele), continues above and, when it reaches a shoulder around 1200m, leave the red-orange marked route for another horizontal one heading due west. It leads directly to the shelter.
- No water nearby. Just a simple tabletop and a good tin roof. This is a simple shelter very useful in case of a storm, as the descent of the cable section is very tricky and exposed when wet due to dense foliage and the cable being a bit short. You have been warned. Walkers should refrain. Note that there is a trail called the Cornillon trail that continues on the north face and leads to the place called "Km 40" on the N91, longer but easier.
